You may have read about our fires...again.
It's just too much on top of everything-else-2020!
We had one day of blue sky and that was the day the Zogg Fire blew up. PTSD blew up to.
I'm thinking really hard that I'm done living in California. We have a swimming pool that we keep up all year long but can't swim in half the summer because the air quality from smoke keeps us inside. Swimming with N95 mask kind of defeats the purpose of swimming. The temperatures are in the triple digits so going outside and not swimming is crazy!
We are seriously considering relocating to North Carolina; more specifically Pfafftown or Lewisville. Away from the coast...trading triple digit heat and fires for hurricanes doesn't appeal to either of us.
Anyone familiar with North Carolina?

I am so glad to hear you are safe! My husbands family lives in OC and we always tell them no thanks. Smog, fires, and eaarthquakes aren't for us. We are retiring and moving to Raleigh area of NC. We will also have a pool. You can't live without air conditioning and a pool. But no one goes without a/c. Unlike where you are. You haven't had a lot of fun until you have 96 degrees with 98% humidity and it's sunny and no rain in site. Does wonders for the skin but wreaks havoc on your hair and everything else. The areas we are looking had to fit our 3 issues. The Raleigh area fit our critieria, 1. we wanted less expensive homes, so we aren't house rich and cash poor as we could be here, lower cost of living, 2. Great medical! 3.Blue, and with all the colleges, IT Triangle bringing in LOTS of people it stays young and progressive. lt has a of things to do with a good resturant scene etc.concerts etc. Lakes near by - several so my husband will enjoy the boat there. We will be 1 1/2 - 2 hrs to the shore so that isn't bad. Don't wish to live on the shore due to hurricanes. Not 100% positive of the exact city just yet, but we have narrowed it. By now we should have had 2 trips there in May and July. But guess what happened? :-) Hopefully this winter we will rent an RV and head down there. BTW, we are finding houses there that cost a 1/16th of ours here. Crazy!!

DeleteWe have friends that are moving to Greenville in 3 or 4 years; waiting for retirement. I've been living on Zillow and found so any houses twice the size of ours here for half the cost! We could bank some cash when our house sells but would never be able to afford to move back to California...and I'm okay with that! Plus have discovered several book clubs, art schools and metaphysical/spiritual groups. Frank and I were discussing starting a photo club when we get there to try to connect with people.
My favorite doctor retired to Raleigh, up in the mountains.

DeleteMy friend moved to Raleigh a few years ago and like it very much. Every place has it’s weather issues but I worry so about CA. My daughter and family live in Santa Cruz and between the threat of earthquakes and those fires, I worry all the time. It is beautiful in CA and I love visiting and I also like it’s culture and mindset, but I don’t see it sustainable.
ReplyDeleteMy sister lives in Santa Cruz and loves it. I would move there, too, except I would only be able too afford a tent in that area! It's beautiful. She was in the big quake in the '80's! Earthquakes up in this part of the state are more like a fun ride as long as there is non of the volcanoes are affected.
DeleteI do love the laid back feeling of California but have been assured that North Carolina is a bit of the same.
