Susceptible to...

As much as the full moon influences me, my moods, my energy, my libido, which is quite a bit; that's how much a waning moon affects me.

Most women are familiar with moon cycles. As the moon's light grows narrower and dimmer, a woman withdraws more and more into herself (generally speaking). It is a time of introversion; a time for self-reflection, creative thought, silence. These 14-ish days are for spiritual retreat. It is a time when we don't have much patience with stupidity, interruptions, bad drivers, rude people...well, hell, we just plain don't have patience for much outside influence.

The new moon, or dark moon is for epiphanies or setting intentions. Grand ideas pop into existence after two weeks of emotionally/spiritually withdrawing from the world.

As the moon grows in breadth and brightness, our grand ideas take shape. We become more extroverted, which for me means I will be more likely to join friends for coffee, be a pleasant and courteous driver, and create really delicious meals. I am nicer and nicer and nicer to my husband. I am REALLY nice to him on the full moon.

The day after the full moon...I'm not so nice!

I am a true introvert, so all that waxing-moon socializing wears me out. Like clockwork, the moon loses the slightest crescent of light and I"m tempted to put a sign around my neck that says:

This month, I found that my mood flipped as if there was a switch. It didn't help that it was the third day of a north wind. If you just thought, "Geez, she's got a lot of excuses for her moodiness!" you just made THE LIST! (In Orange-Psycho speak, "Not Good!")

Hey, I'm still nice, I just don't want anybody around to interrupt my niceness!

Does that happen to you?
Do your moods follow a cycle?
What are your moods susceptible to
Does it piss you off when a person ends a sentence with a preposition?

  1. Sometimes when I'm overly tired my mood changes quite a bit. Not sure about the cycles of the moon. I'd have to check that.

    1. Tired makes me just want to go to bed! Overly tired, I go to bed a little bit slower but I get there!

  2. I like to think that my moods are relatively on an even par all the time. My Rare One may beg to differ, however.

    1. I think my actions tend to be more even. The older I get, the more control I have, but I do feel a desire to dance, sing or retreat on a pretty steady cycle.

  3. I don't think it happens to me, but it does explain a lot with other people!

  4. Your mood/moon cycle sounds very, very familiar Toni...I know someone who's been feeling the inward journey since the full moon last week--yes, it's me. I'm an extrovert (out and out), so this quietness is welcome but confusing. Thankfully, my yoga guru tells me I can blame the moon--so I do:)
Prepositions at the end, however, don't bother me that much.

    1. Prepositions can go anywhere they want, as far as I'm concerned. It's a free world!

You are my other half!!! I am a full blown introvert but most people think of me as an extrovert. I make them laugh, I do weird and crazy things, I've made presentations to groups up to 100 or so people without breaking a sweat but really need seek out solitude for re-energizing.

It is exciting when one starts to recognize their personal connection to the cycles of nature and 'all there is'.

  5. I've never tracked my moods in terms of what the moon is doing. At the moment I'm taking hormones for IVF treatment and I'm all over the place. Tearful and overwhelmed one minute, then irritated about something the next, I can barely keep up with myself!

When I'm not medicated up to the hilt, I'll have to track the moon phases and see what effect that has on my moods. I do know that when I ovulate that's when I find my husband really annoying, hehe.

    1. Keeping you in my prayers for success with the IVF. I've heard that it is much like chronic PMS.

I'll also pray that your husband won't be so annoying when you are ovulating!

  6. My mood is usually pretty stable, unless it's really dark and rainy outside, or cold. I don't like the effect nasty weather has on my mood.

    1. I love the rain; the darker and stormier the better I like it. I only get really moody if it has rained for 4 months without a little sunshine! I don't care how much Vitamin D one takes, there is nothing like sunshine!

  7. I've never thought too much about the moon and cycles, but sometimes when the moon is out I like to pause for a moment to look at it. My wife doesn't like to see the full moon. Sometimes I'll marvel at the full moon rising and call it to my wife's attention. She'll avoid looking at it.

I end a lot of sentences in prepositions so it rarely bothers me when someone else does it. Usually when I write a sentence like that I might fix it so it reads differently, but if it sounds natural to me I'll leave it be.

    1. I could sit and watch the full moon for hours, but I am fond of watching all the phases of Luna! How strange that your wife avoids it! Maybe she saw some werewolf movie when she was really little and it made her wary of it.

Prepositions find themselves at the end of many of my sentences, too. Grammar police will just have to come looking for me!

  9. I worked at a hospital for several years and was always astounded by the ignorant things people do on the full moon. ER was almost always a madhouse.
