Tuesday Coffee Chat

Ink Interrupted's host, Rory, asked the readers of her Tuesday Coffee Chat to finish this sentence:

If I could go anywhere today...

If I could go anywhere today, I would split myself in two. Half of me would fly to Massachusetts to visit my daughter and granddaughters. They moved from a five minute drive from my house to what seems like a whole world away.

My daughter has always been a bit of a gypsy, traveling and living in various parts of the country.  When the girls were born in California, Daughter stayed put. I saw those girls almost everyday of their lives. I quit my job to stay with them when their mom had to return to work.

I knew the move was coming, they've been looking for awhile for the perfect jobs and place. Frankly, I was hoping for Oregon! The girls are almost grown and have wings to spread, much as their mother has done.  I'm happy for them but they did take a bit of my heart with them.

The other half of me would head straight to SoCal, to be with my younger son, his wife and two daughters. Damn, I miss them something awful and that is where the other half of my heart is.

The thing is, even if I showed up at the homes of either child, it would be hit and miss if I would see them. They're lives are incredibly busy; they are the literally most social people I know and the most involved with community and church and fostering cats and dogs and fund raisers for this and that.

I could, at least, wave to them as they ran out of the house in the morning and be around to say goodnight in the late, late evening.

NOW, If I got two days and could go anywhere tomorrow, I would grab Frank and head to a hidden beach we discovered in Kauai! We would share peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and swim and snorkel all day (kissing and hugging would be involved).

  1. If I could go anywhere today...I would go to the DE beaches and just listen to the ocean waves/breathe deep the salty air from a boardwalk bench. I would also buy some fudge.

    1. What a nice picture that is. The difference between east coast and west coast is I would want to do the same but would buy some deep fried artichoke hearts and a beer to snack on.

  2. I could so relate to your wishes! Both my daughter and son have ended up living in Nashville, 1000 miles from where I am! I miss them so very much, and it seems so hard to get us all together in one spot at any time. We do text a lot though, and I am so thankful for that! I love your romantic getaway with your husband, I would gladly sign up for that one too! :-)

    1. Isn't it funny how we teach the kids to be self-reliant, independent adults and then they go and practice it miles and miles away!

  3. Isn't it about time someone actually invented transporters like they had in Star Trek? Long overdue!

  4. I'm with Debra! Technology is way overdue in creating something that we can use to zip around here, there and everywhere.

    1. It would be nice, too, if when they zip one from here to there, they left a little bit of thigh and tush behind!

  5. It is hard to live far away from loved ones (one of my daughters lives in CA), but they are happy there and I do get to see them for two weeks at Christmas and sometimes a week in the summer. However, I wish I was more a part of my west coast grandchildren's life like I am with my east coast grandchildren. Yes, I wish there was a Scotty to beam me up.

    1. My kids live close to PA. Too bad you and I can't trade houses for a couple a weeks a year to be closer to our families! Of course, Frank doesn't want to retire until he's 70, so we still have a ways to go before we can take off for more than a week at a time!

Scotty, don't beam me up, just beam me to Massachusetts!
