A Little Giggle

Yesterday was my dad's 89th birthday. We celebrated by going to DMV to renew his license.

He studied hard for his test and passed! He usually doesn't drive. My sister, the Guy or I drive him around but I think his ego just needed to know that there was a valid driver's license in his wallet.

We didn't have an appointment, so the wait was typical of DMV.

While he was taking the test, my mom and I were sitting in the waiting area. Two young men were sitting across from us. They both spoke a little Spanglish; a little Spanish mixed in with English.  They each had their cell phone out and it looked like they were checking out hot cars. No, not stolen cars, just cool cars which look hot! Oh hell, you know what I mean.

Anyway, they keep nudging each other to check out the next car and the next. One would say, "Mira!" The other one would nod or make a comment in a little bit of both languages.

There must have been an exceptional Chevy on the older guys phone (I'm thinking '69 Impala, but that's just me).  The older guy holds out his phone, "Mira!"

The younger guy grins, nodding his head and said something like, "Rojo caramelo, Spanish-Spanish-Spanish bad-ass!"

I laughed so hard I almost wet my pants.  Of all the things not to say in Spanish!  Don't you just love young men?

  1. Hooray for your father being 89!!! And your mom must be in her 80's too! Wonderful! Role models for my husband and I!!!!

And wow, but that sort of car is HOTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!! Do they still say hot, I wonder? -grin-

My husband has a 1930 Model A coup with rumble seat. And a 1950 5 window Chevy truck. We appreciate old vehicles! ,-) (And old people!)

    1. My husband and I have been dreaming of purchasing a 1945-1950-ish pickup truck. Loving both your vehicles.

I'm not sure what 'they' still say, but I say 'Hot' when I think something (or someone) is hot!

Mom is also 89. Both of them are totally pioneer stock!

    1. The Guy, his brothers and my grandson are all car nuts! In fact there is a 1950 Ford Coupe sitting in my driveway, new interior and, of course, pin striping!

If we're at a restaurant and one of their heads swivels away from the conversation, it's because they are checking out some wheels cruising by!

  4. It always makes me laugh when people who are speaking in a different language suddenly say something in English as it obviously doesn't translate as well in their own language.
    Happy birthday to your dad.

    1. Me, too. Maybe it's time to learn a new language and make up some 'bad ass' phrases!

  6. i am glad for your dad's enthusiasm for driving (which means he loves life) as here mostly after 70 people think their remaining life is to gossip and peeking into others life or criticizing youngsters ,less invest their energies in positive hobbies .

i like the tem spanglish lol

when we visit to hospital or any public lace sometime either i checkout lines of cars standing around as we are willing to buy one and i want to decide which one
