A Little Help Here!

Whoa! Did anybody get the number of that truck?  My body is aching and I'm a little bit out of sync.

The painting in the master bedroom is done. Bed has been moved to a new position. Carpet in bedroom was cleaned and we put long runners on both sides and the foot of the bed to protect the carpet from dog oils, mud and hair. Who knew such lovable creatures could be such a mess!

Still don't have curtains in. Can't decide how to go with color. Maybe you can help!

Top half of walls are a soft gray, bottom is a soft teal. The chair rail, ceiling and trim are white. The entry into bedroom is the same white. The dresser in the top photo I just painted a very pale baby blue. The comforter is a shiny tone-on-tone gray, possibly temporary while I look for a colorful duvet cover or make one.

The room is super peaceful, BUT it needs curtains and a pop of color. I'm really leaning for some pillows and maybe a throw folded at bottom of bed in a salmon color. Really stumped on curtains. My first thought was to drape sheers and fairy lights behind bed (we have blinds) and then a medium gray for the sliding glass doors but I'm worried that everything is too, too neutral.

Now I think, because the room is on the south side of house and sliding door faces west we get lots of light. Maybe we need blackout curtains and maybe they should be the pop in color!

What do you think, friends? Any ideas? And then...

This morning I woke up kind of in slow motion. The warmth from the flannel sheets and heaviness of quilt and comforter and hint of light from the cracks in the blinds made me feel that the universe had me in a loving snuggle.

I lay there for a long time, filled with gratitude for being blessed with a warm bed, a roof over my head and being safe. I thought of the many people who are in so much need of safety, of food, of warmth, of belonging.  I often take for granted all the blessings that I have; that we have as a nation. My wish for all the peoples of the world to have peace, love and a sense of belonging.

Have a good day, all.

  1. I'd go with a teal/baby blue pop of colour for the curtains. The bedroom's looking great!

    1. Salmon is going to have to be the small pops of color, but I have a striped quilt to fold at the end of the bed that has all the colors of the room AND salmon, peach and sage. Thanks for your input!

  3. Keep it soft and restful. It is your bedroom and therefore somewhere to rest and relax. Have nothing too stimulating... I made the mistake with pops of colour... Much prefer soft and neatral

    1. You're right about keeping it soft and restful. We've decided on a light teal curtain to give the room a vertical dimension, which is missing. We will have pillows and a couple of accessories in salmon to give it interest but they can always be removed or replaced.

  4. Wonderful job! Your bedroom looks great, very peaceful. I'd definitely add some pops of colour with pillows. As for curtains, a nice fold colour would really do the trick!

  6. Oooh I love that!!! A loving snuggle from the Universe!! I stayed at a swanky B&B once and the duvet they had...that's how I felt. I need to recreate that comfiness in my own bedroom! It's hard right now because of all the pets, maybe when Stella and Pavlov go back to their owner, I might give a big duvet a shot! The runners are a brilliant idea.

I LOVE how the room looks! It really does look so comfy, I would never want to leave the bed lol...I'm a big fan of white. I have sheers in every window for privacy, and I'd probably put a nice gray drape but I do like neutral tones. But...black-out curtains are very important for us, we have them in our bedroom, and unfortunately the only ones I could find were black. Not a suitable colour for me, but for now it works. I'd probably go with a soft blue in your room. Some funky pillows would add a little touch of charm too! :)

    1. When we finished painting, the first thing that popped into my head was a big white billowy comforter! They are so inviting and comfy. Then I imagined the dogs prints, possibility of mud, dog hair; all of a sudden fluffy white isn't so inviting!

We are going with light teal curtains with black out backing and will probably do sheers, too. Fairy lights still an option!

I picked up a magazine that had directions on how to create Shibori kitchen towels in square patterns. When I have time (add to list of projects a mile long) I want to buy a oversized sheet in a high quality cotton, fold it and fold it and fold it. Tie it between two boards and dye just the folded edges. The dye is a gorgeous indigo but most of the fabric is still white! I could make a duvet cover with it. I can still have white, but can wash it often but not have to wash the whole comforter. Just a thought.

    2. I had to look up Shibori, that looks like it would be really nice! But yes...the doggy prints...and in our case, the cat stinky butt lol ;) We go to thrift shops just to buy old sheets to put over the bed and the couches. I think we have a dozen we go through each week!

I love teal as a colour, and yes, the black out backing is really important, not just for light, but it keeps the room cool in the summer if you keep them closed. I love the Fairy lights idea too!

    3. We bought leather furniture for the family room so we could just wipe it down. The dogs know they are not allowed on the sofas in the living room but it doesn't keep them off. They just hop off with lowered heads if we catch them! I never thought of getting sheets at thrift shops. I'll get some this weekend. Great idea!

Pinterest has some many fairy light ideas. Hard to pass up!

  7. If the bedroom is small, go with the neutral gray or white sheers with light salmon drapes. If the room is large add light teal drapes and keep them open so they are just for color. on either side of the head of the bed. Either way your room will look larger. I would also add the pillows with the colors of the drapes and main carpet. The fairy lights are a cute touch.

    1. Bedroom is big, so we are going with the light teal. We thought we needed a vertical element in the room other than the bedposts. Thanks for your input!
